Drawing inspiration

The practice of drawing trees and plants, pen to paper, is the best way to shape the design process. The stuctures and lines, repeating patterns, randomness… It encourages an intimate study of the natural world and I never tire of looking at plants in groups or on their own. To design a garden as if it has always been there is the ultimate goal.

Seemless, graceful, inviting, inspiring.

Design arises from the site. Solutions come from time spent on the ground observing and listening. A garden conceived in this way takes shape slowly, with a rhythm more in sync to the natural world and the true human pace. A good design starts on the ground and is translated to paper later. One must spend time in the space to get a real sense of how it flows and how it can be tied to the stuctures and overall location.

A garden is a piece of the whole, an extension of ourselves, and a connection to the world around us.
